The Doobie Brothers

 

The Doobie Brothers est un groupe de rock de San José en Californie. Actif depuis 50 ans, dont leurs plus grand succès fut dans les années 70, le groupe s'est formé autour de Tom Johnston et Patrick Simmons (Guitare, Chant), les membres emblématiques qui se sont succédés sont Michael McDonald (Claviers, Chant), et John McFee (Guitare).

The Doobie Brothers (1971 Warner Bros)

1er album du groupe, il fut un échec commercial. C'est le seul opus à avoir Dave Shogren à la basse.

Toulouse Street (1972 Warner Bros)

2em album et nouveau line up, le groupe change de bassiste et accueille un deuxième batteur. Inclus les tubes "Listen To the Music", et "Jesus Is Just Alright With Me".

Premier album du groupe à figurer Jeff Baxter en tant que membre officiel du groupe.

6em album du groupe, le band s'enrichit de Michael McDonald au piano et chant, qui vient épauler Tom Johnston atteint d'un ulcère et qui aura du mal a enregistrer l'album.

Tom Johnston a quitté le groupe, et cet opus malgré un bon accueil, n'a sorti aucun hit, un son plus orienté soul.

8em album de band, le titre "What a Fool Believes" leur a permit de remporter 3 Grammy Awards.

On Step Closer (1980 Warner Bros)

9em album du groupe avec un Line Up complètement remanié, ce sera aussi le dernier opus avec Michael McDonald.

Sibling Rivalry (2000 Rhino Records)

Il aura fallu attendre 9 ans avant que le groupe sorte un nouvel album, Tiran Porter aura quitté le groupe. Les titres "45th Floor" et "Higher Ground" sont co écrits par Bill Champlin.

World Gone Crazy (2010 HOR Records)

13em album de groupe qui démarre #39 dans les charts, leur meilleur résultat depuis 1989. Le producteur emblématique de leur début Ted Templeman revient à la production. Michael McDonald apporte sa voix au titre "Don't Say Goodbye". C'est aussi le dernier opus à avoir Michael Hossack à la batterie, il mourra d'un cancer en 2012.

Southbound (2014 Arista Nashville) 💗

14em album du groupe, The Doobie Brothers ré registre ses meilleurs titres avec des invités de prestige, une sorte de Best Of remis au gout du jour, Michael McDonald participe activement aux enregistrements de cet opus.

Liberté (2021 Island Records)

15em et dernier album du groupe à ce jour, et le 1er à proposer de nouvelles compositions originales depuis "World Gone Crazy" en 2010, ce nouvel opus est constitué de 12 compositions qui lorgnent entre un son classique Country Rock et un style soft adult rock. Même si l'on est loin des premiers albums avec Michael McDonald, c'est toujours un plaisir de voir que le band n'est pas encore mort.
